You moved into a place with an existing home security system
Sometimes when you purchase a home, a home security system is already in use. All the devices function well, are installed in the right areas, and are ready to go. In this instance, you might find that you have to call and set up a new contract. A Vivint installer will still show up to ensure there are no compatibility issues, and they may offer suggestions on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a quick trip, and you can get your monitoring set up without worrying about any new components -- unless you make additions.
The previous owners can give an existing Vivint contract to your family for a nominal set-up cost to make the transfer simpler. If the outgoing residents are downsizing to an apartment or smaller home, turning over the Vivint contract might be an addendum of the sale.
You need to move and take your old components with you
You might need to bring your favorite smart devices with you to your new home when you move. That’s pretty easy to do, as most smart devices are wireless. You can uninstall each device yourself or contact a Vivint installer to come and take down the system. Then an expert will set up the same features -- and any additions you need to have -- in the new home. And your home security contract will keep the same.
